Well, a thin issue this time but it is important to get the issue out so we can maintain contact with the membership. No “On the Net” this issue, no fault of Alan’s, he is busy at work at the moment. However, the lack of his submission does highlight the dependence we have on a small number of regular contributors. Both Alan and Leslie King submit regular articles for Despatch and I am very grateful for the effort they put in. I have always dreaded the day when one or both could not produce something and today here we are. I have filled the pages with a 1942 variant scenario for the GMT game Barbarossa to Berlin, this may not be to everyone’s taste but there is nothing in the bank to call upon in times like these. Alas, I have managed to miss the last two Cons due to events at work that cannot be avoided. Major withdrawal symptoms are setting in. I need a Kremlin fix and I need it now!! Gaming has been non-existent for me for the last year or so for various reasons but I hope that situation will change in the near future. I think it is time to get back into ASL, actually. So what of the future? Well we are in desperate need of material for Despatch. Anything. After Action reports, game variants, errata, new scenarios, book reviews, anything game related. We need to move away from depending on a small core of contributors. I would like to have at least half a dozen contributors that I can rely upon to produce something. In an ideal world I should have more material that space available in any one issue. Come on guys, it’s hard enough being the editor but the job is impossible if there’s nothing to edit! |
